still waiting... quiz time
What State Should You Live In?: You Should Live in Michigan.
If you don't want to live in Michigan, you might also consider: Missouri, Georgia, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Tennessee.
these questions were odd. VA is not on the list.

Could You Be Violent?: There's Not a Violent Bone in Your Body
You're cool and collected, even when someone really gets under your skin.
And while you don't blow up when you're angry, you know how to express your anger calmly.
You don't bottle emotions up or let them get out of control. For you, violence would never be an option.
i even admitted to losing my temper.

What Do the Contents of Your Refrigerator Say About You?: Your Fridge Says..
You like to be surrounded by things you love. You aren't exactly greedy, but you can be materialistic at times.
You tend to be a fairly thrifty person. You splurge occasionally, but you're mostly a saver.
You don't tend to be a very adventurous person, but you do surprise everyone now and then. You have a bit of a wild side.
You try to be responsible, but you don't always succeed. Your heart is in the right place though.
You are likely to be married - and very busy.
interesting...

about st. louis
i was in st. louis this time last week for the criminology meetings. we had a great time, but i've been playing catch-up ever since. some random thoughts:

our plane was delayed about 2 1/2 hours leaving from here, which caused us to miss our connection in charlotte, which caused use to arrive about eight hours late. there was quite a bit of spitting on the trip and the need to pee ...again and again. people were very courteous in the downtown area. i talked to 'jacketman.' calico's was a place for good food as well as food for thought.

i saw the queen of 'food teeth.' really. i got some ideas for a paper on economic sanctions. i was awed at some of the people i got to meet, angered by others. we had the best stuffed mushrooms in the 'whole wide world.' at the casino, i won 80 bucks.

it's snowing

tv ads
last week, after the election, i lamented about a return of pharmaceutical commercials. i had gone a few weeks without the usual bombardment of ads of what might be ailing me due to their replacement with election ads every two seconds.

last night, i realized that the christmas season is here. now all i seem to see are jewelry commercials.

AZ tragedy
an eight year old boy has apparently [allegedly] killed his father and another man, shooting them both. further, the police want to charge him as an adult.

whether he did it or not, i have a hard time believing that an eight year old has the mental capacity to understand the consequences of his actions. and if they find him guilty as an adult, where will he be incarcerated?

another hoorah for the redskins loss
i wish i had seen this yesterday, but still a fun fact:

"In 16 of the 17 presidential elections since the Redskins moved to Washington in 1937, the incumbent has kept the White House if the team won its last home game before the election ... the out-of-power party has taken over if the Redskins lost. (The only exception came four years ago, when the Redskins lost to the Green Bay Packers but President Bush won reelection.)"

believe it!

local legend
the hula hoop lady was arrested. as most norfolk residents know, Pamela Brown hula hoops daily at wards corner. she is developmentally disabled and plays the radio while she hoops in the median of a busy intersection. as far as i know, she has been doing this for years and years. now, someone called the police as a noise violation, the officers tried to arrest her, and things went bad. she has no memory of the event (she has short term memory loss after an accident in 1977) and goes to court tomorrow.

yesterday, some members of the community came out to support her, hula hooping on the same corner.

something just seems wrong when officers have to repeatedly tase a woman like this.
