disturbing news
Baby dies after mom severed her arms in Texas
"Exactly what happened?" the [911] operator asked.
"I cut her arms off," Schlosser replied.
13-year-old is charged in abduction of exotic dancer in Virginia Beach
As the woman tried to leave, the teen pointed a shotgun at her and ordered her to dance for him.
Man told mother he loved her, then killed her [again] in Virginia Beach
“I love you, too, Mom,” Capaccio replied.
Then he shot her in the face.
why can't we have moral values and freedom? these are the values we should be concerned with. we can unite if we realize what is important.

update: i figured i should share some positive news after all that.

a few things
Seinfeld!

the Bush twins tried to have dinner. they were told by the maitre'd that they were full and would be for the next 4 years. upon hearing, the entire restaurant cheered and did a round of shots.

ain't this some sh%t
'Kentucky Governor Could Lose Medical License over Executions':

the governor! the executions violates AMA ethical guidelines. i doubt this will really happen. but what if it does?

'also is challenging the license of a Georgia doctor accused of helping nurses find a vein in a condemned man for a lethal injection.'

is this a reason to eliminate the death penalty?

'there doesn't seem to be any rush to pull the licenses of doctors who perform abortions.'

because that would be the last ridiculous step. someone, please tell me this isn't real.

i can't believe it
nine has always been my 'lucky number.' i pick it in any instance in which picking a number is necessary. it has never brought me luck. i have found, though, that on a quite many CDs, my favorite track is number nine. and when i make a CD, i put my favorite song at track nine.

quiz i just took one of the blogthings quizzes, and look which number i am:

You Are the Peacemaker
9

You are emotionally stable and willing to find common ground with others.

Your friends and family often look to you to be the mediator when there is conflict.

You are easy going and accepting. You take things as they come.

Avoiding conflict at all costs, you're content when things are calm.
What number are you?

can you believe it? btw- Ally needs a lucky number, this sucks.

game eight: 49-21
Donovan McNabb lit up the Texas skies, throwing four touchdown passes -- three to Terrell Owens and one to Todd Pinkston -- as the Eagles dominated Dallas, 49-21, on Monday night. McNabb was up to his old tricks, scrambling and eluding defenders and making big plays as the Eagles rebounded from last week's loss and improved to 8-1. Lito Sheppard added a 101-yard interception return.

There's a poll on the Eagles website that shows 25.7% of respondents said: "When McNabb is hot, Eagles are the best." He was on fire last night... Did you see that 14 second play? Yeah, baby!

first lines
a little fun for this afternoon. can you name these songs from their opening lyrics? i admit, some are much easier than others.

What we've got here / is a failure to communicate

Oh, a storm is threat'ning / My very life today

If I fall along the way / pick me up and dust me off

People say I'm no good, I'm crazy as a loon /
'cause I get stoned in the morning, I get drunk in the afternoon

Pistol shots ring out in the barroom night

I, I will be king / And you, You will be queen

I remember every little thing / As if it happened only yesterday

Put on your best dress darling / Can't you see the time is right

She's got it all figured out / She knows what everything's about

We got winners, we got losers / Chain smokers and boozers

It's nine o'clock on a Saturday / The regular crowd shuffles in

Lying beside you / here in the dark

I was at the mall, sippin' on a milkshake

it's true
letterman makes a rare television appearance. he is on live (with regis and kelly) right now!

update at 3:47 pm: it made the news.

we're doing drugs this week
...in class. the topic reminds me of a couple of books that look really good:

Why Our Drug Laws Have Failed and What We Can Do About It and Drug Crazy : How We Got into This Mess and How We Can Get Out

related new story: The number of women in state and federal prisons is at an all-time high and growing fast, with the incarceration rate for females increasing at nearly twice that of men, the government reported Sunday.
Overall, men are still far more likely than women to be in jail or prison, and black men are more likely than any other group to be locked up...Longer sentences, especially for drug crimes, and fewer prisoners granted parole or probation are main reasons for the expanding U.S. prison population...Year by year, the number of women incarcerated grew an average of 5 percent, compared to an average annual increase of 3.3 percent for men...More than 44 percent of all sentenced male inmates were black, and many of them were young.

game eight: 27-3*
oh well. you can't win forever. hey, 7-1 is still a great record, better than anyone else in the NFC. and with games against Dallas and Washington coming up, i'm hopeful.

* it's not over yet, so this may not be a final score.

'More Americans voted against George Bush than any sitting president in history.'*
Deb is investigating rumors on the internet that there is a connection between intelligence and how people voted. Apparently, states with a higher average IQ voted for Kerry, while the opposite is true for Bush.

Also, Michael Moore has written '17 Reasons Not to Slit Your Wrists.' Here are the top three:
'1. It is against the law for George W. Bush to run for president again.
2. Bush's victory was the NARROWEST win for a sitting president since Woodrow Wilson in 1916.
3. The only age group in which the majority voted for Kerry was young adults (Kerry: 54%, Bush: 44%), proving once again that your parents are always wrong and you should never listen to them.' It's funny stuff.

I have no idea how long I will be taken by all of this. My apologies to those friends who don't wanna hear about it any longer.

In other news, I had some thoughts on The Apprentice. It seems to be that either Kevin or one of the women must win. I know this show is reality, but after picking a white guy last year, Trump must pick some kind of minority this year or the masses might riot.

letterman
was great last night. it was his son's first birthday so viewers were treated to a bit if sentimental-ness. and the top ten list was hilarious:

                Top Ten John Kerry Excuses
        10. Voters were in a fever-induced haze because they couldn't get flu shots.
        9. Floridians confused by shockingly unconfusing ballots.
        8. Maybe it wasn't best idea to begin speeches with "yo mama is so fat" jokes.
        7. The endorsement from Osama Bin Laden didn't exactly help him.
        6. "Dude--it's the Curse of the Bambino."
        5. Should've campaigned more in New Mexico, less in regular Mexico.
        4. Turns out voters think it's hot that Cheney has a lesbian daughter.
        3. Thought America was ready for a lunatic first lady.
        2. Voters seem to really like a weak economy and a badly-run war.
        1. Was distracted by late night erotic phone calls from Bill O'Reilly.

okay, after this
i'll stop. this map that deb's sporting is the way to end the day.

more bad news: three strikes stay
California voters have rejected Proposition 66. The measure would have restored California's three strikes law to the voters' original intent -- providing for sentences of 25-years-to-life for violent repeat offenders. Right now, several thousand people are serving 25-to-life sentences only for petty, nonviolent offenses, such as drug possession or shoplifting. And now they will continue to do so.

There is good news, though: 120 million people voted this year. That represents just under 60 percent of eligible voters - the highest percentage turnout since 1968.
See here for more good news.

election 2004: did i hear this right?
there is only one black guy in the senate?

this whole thing is disappointing, but not surprising. the republicans control it all. i've had enough of 'family values.'

locally: Norfolk and Portsmouth did vote for Kerry (the rest of hampton roads did not). US house races in VA: Thelma Drake (R), Bobby Scott (D), and Randy Forbes (R) won.

update at 8:34 am: 11 states ban gay-marriage and CA supports stem-cell research

at 8:55 am: i have been unable to tear myself away from the TV (and internet) all night. barely slept. now i have to try to tear myself away long enough to get ready for work...

at 9:42 am: i managed to shower and have to go to work now. one more thing though, that i had to share. this was written by Jeff at The American Street last night:
When we awake tomorrow, we will live in a one-party state. The Congress, the Presidency, and the judiciary will all be solidly in the hands of theocratic leaders. Lets call it straight: their fealty is first and last to a fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible. The Constitution is a secondary document.

final election prediction
from electoral-vote.com. let's hope.

the map shows VA as 'barely bush.' look, mom, MD is 'strong kerry.'

i'm listening to bush right now saying "it comes down to who you can trust." well, that is exactly it. it's not really about the issues anymore in my opinion. it's about who trusts bush and who doesn't. go vote everyone, let's find out.

kerry wins 2-1
well, in the colonial place "voo doo vote" he did.

last night, while we were trick-or-treating, we stumbled apon this house that had set up a voting booth. each adult was given a rock to place in the bucket of their choice: kerry or bush. i drove by this morning to check out the results. surprising.

interesting...
Crooked Timber: Redskins Lose!: "In every Presidential election-year since 1936, if the Washington Redskins lost their last game before the election, the incumbent lost as well. "

game seven: 15-10
OMG! 7-0!

the Ravens didn't stop them (ha ha dad), the Patriots lost, and now the Eagles are alone at the top. 7-0!

you made it down here?

what? you want a reward?
