today’s quote
"The notion that 'family life' is an important dimension of the crime problem is also widespread, but has served primarily as a resource for advocates of the 'culture of welfare' explanation of 'underclass' behavior." - Katherine Beckett.
This quote represents a peek into the work I am doing. For example, a similar quote from myself: "Conservative movements have created get tough policies which increase imprisonment and harm offender's children in a multitude of ways. Among these are the aforementioned financial, emotional, educational and health burdens and the risk of intergenerational incarceration. It is interesting that it is conservative movements that advocate keeping the family together to minimize the harmful effects on children."

the news is just more of the same lately. screwey politicians and swat teams. oh,and people who feel that $48.6 million makes you have to fly coach.
there's also an appalling Dear Abby column about a man's wife who is raped by his brother.
How's Your Spelling?: You got 9/10 correct.
and a quote from Edna St. Vincent Millay: "It's not true that life is one damn thing after another; it is one damn thing over and over."

stupid quote of the day*
"We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead."
- Warner Bros president of production Jeff Robinov, in response to the failed brave one (jodi foster) and the invasion (nicole kidman).
* i'm doubt stupid is the right word, but i'm too worn out to think about.

quote of the day
"At the Oceanfront, double-entendre billboards would create a bigger riot than if tourists stole all the sand."
Mike Gruss on billboards such as Shuck U - Old School Raw Bar and Grill, I Got My Crabs at Dirty Dick's, and Salty Peter's Shrimp Shack, that run along the way to the Outer Banks. He also says, "There's a fine line between offensive and humorous. It's just odd it happens to be the state line" regarding the fact that they allow such boards in NC but not in VA Beach.

quote of the day
from talkleft today:
"How is it that we have a President who wants to spend untold billions helping those in a foreign country but won't help those at home who need assistance, like the farmers and Katrina victims and those without health insurance? Why should we rebuild Iraq before rebuilding New Orleans?
If this is typical of all Republicans, it's time we vote them out for good."
