here's a doll for all the kiddies
quentin tarantino has been turned into a doll to accompany his appearance as in the new movie, grindhouse. the character is RAPIST NUMBER ONE. really. i've heard it's for sale at Toys R Us.

i have no problem with tarantino and enjoy most of his movies. i have no problem with characters of rapists. i, too, enjoy a twisted plot. but a doll? the boys on boston legal would have a field day with this. [via fwf]

friday bullets
  • georgia school holds first integrated prom. i heard this story sometime this week while i was laid up. i still cannot believe it.

  • this is supposed to be the biggest summer ever for the movies, with 17 sequels coming out. i am so not excited.

  • a benchmark: 200 people have been exonerated, released from prison after being wrongfully convicted.

  • a SC man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to having sex and impregnating a 9-year-old girl, his stepdaughter, actually. and for some reason, this is not called rape.

  • lastly, here's an interesting quotation: "Fewer than 3 in 10 people ages 17 to 24 are fully qualified to join the Army. That means they have a high school diploma, have met aptitude test score requirements and fitness levels, and would not be barred for medical reasons, their sexual orientation or their criminal histories." uh, oh. what are we gonna do now?

party weekend is a busy weekend
i'm exhausted. the birthday party was a hit* [pics are up], but it has left me so tired. and we have to be up at the crack of dawn tomorrow to go to busch gardens. oh, to be ten.

i saw my email box full of student papers. they will hate me, but i just can't do it.

    * i know this because my daughter said this was the greatest day of her life.

    i'm listening to INXS
and it's cool. you can laugh now.

    i had no idea
but apparently the government keeps a list of all of our prescriptions. this has come up during the news of the VAT shooter. but somehow this seems way wrong to me...

    you wanted to know
everyone is so upset that NBC aired the video tape submitted to them by Cho, the VA Tech shooter. but since monday, we have all asked ourselves, and others, how someone could do that. what happend to make him commit such a heinous crime?

we now have our answers. he was picked on, ridiculed, and persecuted.

i didn't say it made sense. i am not excusing his behavior. but don't ask questions if you don't want to hear the answers.

most of us think that such hardships would never lend us to commit murder. or suicide. this is not the first time it has happened. and it won't be the last.

    ODU security threat
    i received this email:

We just received a telephone threat which we are taking
seriously. The caller said “There is going to be a shooting at ODU....”
We have increased security on campus and our police are
working with the Norfolk City Police to insure safety and security on
campus. Please exercise caution and report any unusual activity
to the campus police at 683-4000. Students who choose not to attend class tonight will be accommodated.
one student has reported to me that the computer labs are closed.

because i have so much work to do
and don't want to read anymore about VAT for a minute, i'm taking time for quizzes. i need a lot of distraction myself, so here's quite a few choices. in case you are in need of the same.

What Does Your Favorite Color Say About You?: Purple Says:
    Intuitive --- Seeking --- Creative --- Kind --- Self-Sacrificing --- Growth Oriented --- Strong --- Very Wise --- Rare

Are You an Atheist, Agnostic or a Believer?: You Are An Atheist
God? No thanks. You're not buying into any religion.
They're all bunk to you. You rather focus on what you know is true.
You may be a passive non-believer or a rabid atheist activist.
But one thing is for sure... no one's going to make you go to church!

Are You Id, Ego, or Superego?: You Are the Ego
You take a balanced approach to your life.
You definitely aren't afraid to act out on your desires - even crazy ones.
But you usually think first. Morals drive you as much as hedonism does.
You've been able to live a life of pleasure... without living a life of excess.

Are You a Feminist?: You Are 100% Feminist
You are a total feminist. This doesn't mean you're a man hater (in fact, you may be a man).
You just think that men and women should be treated equally. It's a simple idea but somehow complicated for the world to put into action.

How Do Men See You?: Men See You As Desirable
Men often find you immediately attractive and sensual.
You're honesty is refreshingly beautiful ... it draws guys in.
Packing light means you enjoy new relationships easily.

virginia is home to many things
and now the deadliest school shooting in history.

Gunman kills 21 on Virginia Tech campus .

update 04/17: i don't need to tell you how things have escalated.

Gunman Who Killed 32 Lived in Va. Tech Dormitory

another update: details are now emerging that show how troubled the shooter was. this is starting to sounds a lot like Klebold and Harris in Columbine. lastly, here's his writing.

ten years and over $1.5 billion dollars later
we learn that abstinence-only education is ineffective.

now, will we continue these programs, even though we know they don't work? kids will have sex if they are going to have sex anyway. educated decisions are always the best.

    taxes
i finally finished my taxes. oh, i had done them before, but i didn't want to hit the final submit button and actually owe the state of virginia $555. i went to the local jackson hewitt and they were able to get the balance down. i paid $40 [i still filed the federal myself] and now only owe $200.

    conspiracies
Government conspiracies are a popular topic. In fact, most Americans believe in conspiracy theories . The big ones are

  • Roswell - What happened? Aliens?

  • The Kennedy Assassination - Interesting how the FBI was one of the only groups that could have ordered the Secret Service to remove the bullet proof dome from the top of the presidential vehicle. Was there an assassination plot? If so, what was Lee Harvey Oswald's role?

There's also a conspiracy surrounding the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination. Did the Republicans fear the power he had? What about J. Edgar Hoover? Was he poisoned with Anthrax? They found lethal doses in hair and skin samples. Let us not forget Human Experimentation.

  • fountains are cool
the fountains pictured here are rather outstanding.

have you been to Brighton, DE?

The City of Brighton, Delaware Homepage

since i have family on the eastern shore, is anyone familiar with this?

i pass up on a lot of quizzes, but i had to take this one
Are You Extremely Sensitive?: Your Sensitivity Score: 37%

In general, you don't let your senses overwhelm you.
You're pretty stoic, and you're good at blocking out what's going on around you. However, you are still sensitive enough to enjoy all the beautiful things in the world!

things i finally learned this week
  • 'unlimited minutes' on a cell phone was designed for those with children. the child is about to turn ten later this month and the last week has taught me that i may need an 'unlimited minutes' plan.

  • plastic storage containers (for the fridge, think tupperware and the like) are clear for men. if a man cannot see inside it, he has no idea it's there.

    the Magna Carta
came to town. it sounds a bit odd, but it indeed did.

the sentiment among most has been, these past few weeks, that the Magna Carta is not art. in virginia beach, it is being displayed in an art museum. they are acknowledging the historical significance of the document,* but challenging the actual artistic value based upon the fact that you can read the text and hundreds of years worth of importance on any webpage.

well, we went to view the Magna Carta in the art museum. and let me tell you, it is art. the very argument that it is available in full-text with translations so easily makes it art. the actual document has artistic value because it's history, even though so widely available, is immortalized in an 800 year old piece of paper.

*and this exhibit, portraying the significance of the Magna Carta through time, was a fine one, too.

    you made it down here?

    what? you want a reward?
