i like 'Two and a Half Men'
Charlie Sheen is about to be the highest paid sitcom star.
Sources said Sheen will earn in the neighborhood of $350,000 per episode this season under the new deal, a big increase from his previous salary in the low six figures ... The top of the sitcom actor pay scale remains the nearly $2 million per episode Ray Romano pulled in for the final season of CBS' "Everybody Loves Raymond" in 2004-05.

i'm one of those 'list' people
this week's link of the week is blender's list of famous firsts in music. a sample:

1965: First Recorded Rap Song: “RAP DIRTY” by Blowfly
1967: First Rock Album with Printed Lyrics: SGT. PEPPER’S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND
1970: First Rock Star to Choke on His Own Vomit: Jimi Hendrix
1982: First Rock Album Released on CD: 52ND STREET by Billy Joel
1990: First Rap Song to Reach No. 1 on the Pop Charts: “ICE ICE BABY” by Vanilla Ice*

while browsing the lists, i found this one, too: 10 Songs You Were Probably Conceived To. there's some good music on this list.

* how sad.

white names, black names
at ABC News: Top 20 'Whitest' and 'Blackest' Names:
Studies of resumes have found that people with black-sounding names are less likely to get callbacks. '20/20' put 22 pairs of names to the test, posting identical resumes except for the names at the top.
The resumes with the white-sounding names were actually downloaded 17 percent more often by job recruiters than the resumes with black-sounding names.
i'm gonna tell my friend kate that she's already ahead.

what is TO up to now?
Terrell Owens reportedly tried suicide

this guy attracts publicity like an actor with a movie coming out.

update 09/28/06: i was right. owens says it was an allergic reaction.

last night on Boston Legal
[which you guys know is my favorite show] new characters were introduced, and they were terrific. the new girl was bugging me though. i knew i knew her from somewhere. turns out it's Constance Zimmer. hmmm. that didn't do it for me either. then i checked her imdb profile. still nothing at first.

she was on Good Morning, Miami which i only vaguely remember. i think the show must have been on Thursdays on NBC, which would explain why i saw it at all. but i remember Penny. she's hot.

typos!
yesterday i read Blackface, a novel by Q.B. Wells. it was an interesting and good story [and a quick read]. but my problem is the amount of typos and mistakes printed in the book. it was almost awful to read. there was one page where the entire sections [several paragraphs] were out of order. not to mention all the times a line was started with " and never featured a closed ".

i would personally help you to edit/fix these mistakes, mr. wells.

cameras for fat people?

it's not just for tv and magazines anymore, anyone can be instantly slimmer! with hp cameras, you can now have photos that flatter. from the site:

They say cameras add ten pounds, but HP digital cameras can help reverse that effect. The slimming feature, available on select HP digital camera models, is a subtle effect that can instantly trim off pounds from the subjects in your photos!

With the slimming feature, anyone can appear more slender—instantly.

- The effect is subtle—subjects still look like themselves
- Can be adjusted for a more dramatic effect
- See a before and after version, then decide which to keep

marijuana bust
what did police think they would find when pulling over willie nelson? 'A search of the bus produced 11/2 pounds of marijuana and 0.2 pounds of narcotic mushrooms, according to state police.'

in related news, marijuana arrests reached an all-time high in 2005, according to the UCR. 42.5% of all drug arrests were for pot and those arrests have doubled since the 1990's. NORML breaks it down like this: a marijuana smoker is arrested every 40 seconds in America.

i have mini-heart attacks each football season
i'll say this about week two... the eagles seemed to have forgotten there was 60 minutes in the game, but the redskins [and the cowboys] seemed to have forgotten how to play.

strangers
how well do you know your neighbors? if you had an emergency, how many people would come to help you? how many people at a time do you 'entertain?' are we a society of strangers? where's the milkman? the friendly 'first name basis' we are on with our mail carriers, grocers, shop clerks, etc.?

is this what technology has done to us?

would you accept $1,000,000 to leave the country and never set foot back again?

Anna Nicole Smith, but this has to be terrible.

uh oh
The Imagination Test: Jessica, your imagination is fueled by a subconscious desire for Innocence.

The stories in the deepest recesses of your imagination suggest that you have a strong longing to feel innocent and to have a clear conscience. They may also indicate that you are unable to forgive yourself for something that happened in your past.

Your subconscious feeds your imagination. It is where your deepest thoughts and feelings are housed and it has great power over how you experience and interpret the world.

and right handed
The Brain Test: Jessica, you are Left-brained

Most left-brained people like you feel at ease in situations requiring verbal ability, attention to detail, and linear, analytical ability. Whether you know it or not, you are a much stronger written communicator than many, able to get your ideas across better than others.

It's also likely that you are methodical and efficient at many things that you do. You could also be good at math, particularly algebra, which is based on very strict rules that make sense to your logical mind.

the latest news from my hole in the universe
there's always something going on. click here to find out what else has happened.

a risky move
UK network to do fictional Bush assassination film:

British public broadcaster Channel 4 is courting controversy with what it calls a 'shockingly real' drama about the fictional assassination of President George W. Bush.

'Death of a President,' shot in the form of a documentary examining the assassination, will use a blend of archival footage and computer-generated special effects to portray Bush in October 2007 arriving in Chicago during an anti-war rally.
